John Batchelor and I welcomed Jason Davis to the show to discuss the JAXA successful Hayabusa 2 mission which just landed on the asteroid Ryugu.  At the time of this program, four photos had been sent back including surface photos.  We talked about Minerva II and the Rovers 1a and 1b, the hopper technique used by the rovers given the surface condition or the asteroid largely being rubble.  We also talked about the origin of the asteroid which is a main belt asteroid.  Part of the Hayabusa 2 mission includes an upcoming sample return mission with the sample landing in Australia in 2020.  Another point made by our guest was the teaming up to share data with the OSIRIS REX mission.  This was a comprehensive one segment Hotel Mars discussion.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or Jason Davis through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com.  In addition, Jason can be reached through the Planetary Society as he is one of their bloggers.
